Returning to my original radio stomping grounds of Around The Fringe, a live radio program that I’ve been helping host for nearly twenty years, and one which is a direct inspirational template for It’s All Happening. The program, created and hosted by my friend and compatriot the Rev. Cool, airs on WYSO 91.3 FM, serving as a cultural fixture among the indie music and media scene in the Dayton, Ohio area and beyond for over four decades now.
I was hosting this week’s episode as the Rev was away due to the passing of his dear friend Ismael Ahmed, a man whose life and legacy of service to not just community but to humanity is/was profound. More on who he was and his life’s work here and this from The Detroit Free Press.
I had the pleasure of getting to meet Ish in person a few years back, who among his many creative activities and accomplishments was being a long time DJ and radio producer at WDET, hosting his show “This Island Earth.” I was grateful for his interest in what I was doing with It’s All Happening and appreciative of his efforts to get it added to the WDET programming schedule.
This program, made up of material from various episodes of IAH, was in his honor along with that of Bob Marley, on whose birthday the program was produced. PROGRAM PLAYLIST: The Police - “Demolition Man”
